When I am out walking I nearly always take a sketchbook or paints so that I have a record of where I have been. It may be rainy, cold, baking hot and ridiculously windy, but I do my best to paint or sketch what I can in situ and then return to finish the painting in my studio. There will be a feeling that I had when I was out in the landscape that can only be translated through colour and mark. Even if you never get to see these beautiful spaces I hope, by looking at these paintings, you get some idea of what it felt like to be there.
