Music Inspired Paintings

Ravel

Caroline Hall’s music inspired paintings are all inspired by one piece of music - Maurice Ravel’s Pavane for solo piano. As a pianist, she is intrigued by the parallels between painting and music, and this glorious piece became the perfect springboard for work that was entirely unrelated to landscape.

These abstract music paintings began as experimental studies, initially developed as exercises in colour. Gradually, the mark became increasingly important. Working in this way, the paintings explore how sound can be translated into visual form, forming a distinctive body of music inspired paintings within Caroline Hall’s broader practice as a contemporary landscape artist.

The Ravel Collection was shown at The Minster Gallery in Winchester. Each painting is on a deep-edged bespoke birch panel, set in a black and gold frame. Contact Caroline to discuss larger commissions.
