Tide’s Out, St Ives

Most of my seascapes are inspired by St Ouen’s Bay in Jersey which is my family home. But I have also spent alot of time over the last few years painting and sketching in St Ives in South Cornwall. The light here is extraordinary and I have become fascinated by the patterns that are made on the beach by the incoming and outgoing tide. Over the years these paintings have become more and more about the metal surface reflecting the light and less about the paint, with sanding, drilling and scratching an integral part of the final work.
