The paintings in this collection are all inspired by one piece of music - Maurice Ravel’s Pavane for solo piano. As a pianist I am intrigued by the parallels between painting and music and this glorious piece was for me the perfect springboard for work that was totally unrelated to landscape. The paintings were intended to be experimental. They began as exercises in colour but gradually the mark became more and more important. The Ravel Collection was shown at The Minster Gallery in Winchester. Each painting is on a deep edged bespoke birch panel set in a black and gold frame.
