These seascapes on aluminium draw on my love for St Ouen’s Bay in Jersey where I spent my teenage years and where my family still live.  More recently I have also begun a series inspired by the extraordinary light of the sea around St Ives in North Cornwall. Working on aluminium I am able to sand and drill back into the metal creating areas of light which move with the viewer.  These paintings have become gradually more minimal as I create that tension between surface and paint.  I use a sanding pad to rub away areas of the painting and a drill to suggest lines in the sand.  Industrial methods for an industrial surface.
